This is a useful rough guide, not a complete list of everything worth visiting. It holds the sites the state looks after, the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes, the Inventory of Historic Battlefields, and the world heritage sites. Scheduled monuments are a separate decision and are not here yet.

A garden or designed landscape is a designation, and many of them are private land with no public access. No opening hours, prices or public-access claims are carried for any record, because the source carries none; the link on each record goes to the Historic Environment Scotland page for that place.
